Yiannis Yannis Spyropoulos

Yiannis (Yannis) Spyropoulos (1912 - 1990) was active/lived in Greece.  Yiannis Yannis Spyropoulos is known for Painting.

Yannis Spyropoulos studied at the School of Fine Arts (1930 - 1936) with Silver and E. Thomopoulos.  With a scholarship of the Academy of Athens he continued his studies in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Art in free workshops.  He returned to Greece in 1939 where he worked until his death. 

His work starts from naturalistic objects and gradually unreels in a conscious way towards the extreme achievements of abstraction.  In 1960, driven by a sense of "light from within" he created larger and paintings with dominant tan hues and subtle qualities of transparent color.  The award at the Venice Biennale that year, decisively marks the beginning of an international artistic career in the area of abstraction.
