Giulio Del Torre

Giulio Del Torre (1856 - 1932) was active/lived in Italy.  Giulio Del Torre is known for Portrait painitngs, folkloric scenes.

A native of the village of Romans d'Isanzo, a picturesque little village near Trieste, Giulio del Torre became a student of the Academy of Vienna under Karl von Blaas.  This instructor was a versatile artist; initially painting religious art, von Blaas later did portraits, genre and mythological scenes.  Del Torre also spent several years at the Acdemy in Rome and later in Venice.

Eventually the fascination of his native city, and the area amid which it was situated, called him to return home.  There, del Torre sought to express the character of his birthplace.  Although he was an excellent portrait painter, the artist became known for his popular folkloric scenes of the common people of the Friuli district, a part of the north-eastern tip of Italy.
