Jack Macartney

“Jack Macartney was born in San Francisco and now resides in Laguna Beach. He studied with the Business Men’s Art Institute, Edgar Payne, William T. McDermitt, and Sam Hyde Harris. Mr. Macartney was thirty years in the woodwork manufacturing business in Los Angeles; he came to that city in 1903 when it had a population of about 150,000. He has worked as a technical writer for Northrop Aircraft during and after the Second World War. Mr. Macartney moved to Laguna Beach in 1958. He served in the U. S. Air Service in World War I. He has received awards in a number of exhibitions, and his paintings are in a number of private collections and two public schools. He belongs to Painters and Sculptors Club, Artists of the Southwest, Business Men’s Art Institute, and the Laguna Beach Art Association.” (from June 1961 Laguna Beach Art Association cat.)
