An important Canadian Inuit* carver, sculptor, draftsman*, and printmaker, Joe Talirunili (aka: Joe Talirunilik; aka: Joe Talirunnilik; aka: disc number* E9818) was born near Kuujjuarapik, Quebec and died in Puvirnituq (aka: Povungnituk), Quebec, where he had lived since the 1950’s. His “migration” carvings are iconic images of Inuit Art*. He is discussed in most of the comprehensive books about Inuit Art* and he is the subject of an article in the Canadian Encyclopedia. His works have been featured in many landmark exhibitions, they are in the collections of numerous museums, and they have achieved some of the highest auction prices ever for Inuit art. (3)(4)
