Johann Heinrich Schonfeld (1609 - 1682) was active/lived in Germany.  Johann Schonfeld is known for Painting and sculpture.

He received his artistic training with the painter Caspar Sichelbein in Memmingen.  In 1633, he fled to Italy due to the Thirty Years War.  Until 1637 or 1638, he stayed in Rome, then in Naples until about 1649.  Afterwards, he went back to Germany.  From 1652, he lived and worked in Augsburg, where he received the civil and master rights. In the following years, he received many commissions for churches in southern Germany.  In addition, he painted mythology and genre scenes and was active as etcher and draughtsman.

Schönfeld is considered the most important German baroque painter in the second half of the 17th century.  Works by Schönfeld are on display, for example, in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, the State Gallery in Stuttgart, the Louvre, and the Albertina in Vienna.
