"The son of Moroccan immigrants to Canada, Joseph Amar was teaching at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto in the 1980's when I met him. I studied painting briefly with him, and was fortunate to visit him, his wife Dale and daughter Hannah in his New York home and Studio in his first year there. He was an enabling and inspiring teacher whom I will never forget. I am fortunate to have a large mixed-media work called 'Metropolis' (featured in a Canadian Art Magazine) which was one of his first impressions of his adopted city New York, as well as a couple of pastel drawings from his 'New York Landlord' series."

'Joseph Amar died January 2001.
