Albert Kotin

Albert Kotin (1907 - 1980) was active/lived in New York.  Albert Kotin is known for Abstract expressionist painting, lithography.

Born in Minsk, Russia, Albert Kotin emigrated to the United States in 1908 and became a U.S. citizen in 1923.  He studied in New York at the Art Students League and at the National Academy of Design with Charles Hawthorne.  He studied with Hawthorne and Hans Hofmann at Provincetown, Massachusetts.  In Paris, he studied at the Academie Julian, Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, the Atelier de Freque and Colarossi.

Albert Kotin has completed mural commissions for the sociology department of New York University and the U.S.Treasury Department in Arlington, New Jersey.  From 1933 to 1940, he was a part of the Federal Art Projects of the WPA (Works Progress Administration).

From 1941 to 1945, he served in World War II in the U.S. Army Engineering School and then taught at City College of New York (1952-1961), and other institutions for briefer periods of time including Long Island University and Southern Illinois University.
