The following was submitted October 2005 and modified March 2006 by the artist who lives in Virginia at Big Walker Mountain:
While growing up in West Virginia, Barbara Glenn Meadows-May gained a great love for wildlife and beautiful scenery. Before moving to Virginia, Barbara lived alone in Colorado for 10 years. Her log cabin was located at 9500 feet near the Spanish Peaks in the southern part of the state. While living there she observed and studied wildlife up close and personal. Each day was presented with a new adventure especially learning how to live with the American Black Bear. Many hours were spent sketching and taking photographs of a mother black bear and her cubs during the summer of 1995. Ten years later Barbara has finished over twenty paintings of the black bears that her life became so intertwined with while living in Colorado.
