Bernece Berkman-Hunter (1911 - 1988) was active/lived in Illinois.  Bernece Berkman Hunter is known for Serigraphs, etching, painting, design.

Born in Chicago, Bernece Berkman-Hunter became a painter and graphic artist in a style that combined Cubism and Expressionism. She was the child of Jewish immigrant parents, and her artistic career was bound up with her Jewish heritage and a strong commitment to political activism.

She was a member of the radical American Artists Conference and joined a printmaking group that circulated left-wing pamphlets advocating that artists and writers crusade for social reform. One of her themes was the 1937 steel strike in South Chicago where police and workers clashed and many people were injured and several killed. Her oil painting about the strike titled "Current News" had "angular shapes, compressed space, vibrant color, and distorted forms" (Kennedy 91)---abstraction that conveyed the oppression and tension of the workers.
