Douglass Thomas Fraser

Douglass Thomas Fraser (1883 - 1955) was active/lived in California.  Douglass Fraser is known for Landscape, coastal views, ships and mural painting.

A landscape painter and muralist, Douglass Fraser was born in Vallejo, CA on Dec. 29, 1883.  He was a pupil of Arthur Mathews at the Mark Hopkins Institute and of Frank DuMond and Charles Hawthorne at the Art Students League in New York City.

By 1908 he was dedicated to painting scenes of the rugged Monterey coast and the oak trees of Solano County.  For many years, he worked at Mare Island Navy Yard as a shipbuilder while painting in his leisure.

A lifelong resident of his native city, he died on Aug. 6, 1955.

Memberships included the Bohemian Club and the Carmel Art Association/

California State Fair, 1925 (prize); Babcock Galleries (NYC), 1925; Bohemian Club, 1926-52; Gumps (SF), 1926, 1928; Vallejo Artists Guild, 1929; Oakland Art Gallery, 1932.
