Franz Beer was born in Vienna in 1929 and studied at the Academy of Arts and Painting in Vienna. He began exhibiting his abstract art in the 1950s across Europe and signed an exclusive contract with the Parisian art gallery Bing from 1959 to 1965.

Beer then moved to the United States where he taught at prestigious universities until the mid-1970s. He returned to Europe and taught at the University of Applied Sciences for Design of Schwäbisch Gmünd before retiring to Venice in 1992.

Beer's impasto technique gives his abstract compositions a volcanic and dynamic quality that comes alive with light. He considered his creative process as an introspective journey.

Beer's artwork is exhibited in many museums, including the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and the Museum of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
