Joseph-Charles Franchere ARCA (1866 – 1921)

A prominent Canadian painter, draftsman, illustrator, muralist, sculptor and educator, Joseph-Charles Franchere was born in Montreal, where he lived his whole life and died. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts* and exhibited with them for over 25 years. His works are in the permanent collections of many Canadian museums including the National Gallery of Canada.

His mediums included oils, watercolors, chalk, pastels, pencil, and fresco (church murals). His subjects included portraits, landscapes, still life, figures, nudes, interiors, genre, allegory, historic events, religious subjects, marine scenes, rural scenes, villages and snowscapes. His styles included Naturalism* and Realism*.
