Philadelphia born, Joseph Claghorn was a painter and etcher whose subjects included landscapes, figures, portraits, and buildings such as Independence Hall in Philadelphia. 

He was also and instructor in arts and crafts and is known for a mural he painted for the Chamber of Commerce in Florida.
