Originally an architecture and building work student, Sedgley turned to painting in the mid-60s. Inspired by the writings of Goethe and Klee, the artist focused on colour and collaborated with Bridget Riley and Peter Townsend for the setup of SPACE in 1968.

Since the 70s Sedgley has been focusing on light kinetic art, exploring the relationship between light and music.
