Jonathan M. Farley (1970-)

Born in 1970, now residing in Oregon, Farley is mostly self-taught other than some study under Kirk Miller.  He is greatly influenced by the 19th century French impressionists and Van Gogh.  His technique ranges from soft, interpretive landscapes to a more hard-edged style using impasto pigment. 

Jonathan Farley has traveled and painted around the world, but has painted Oregon landscapes for the most part.  The paradox of these landscapes is his advance approach, while retaining the common character of the locale he is painting, whether it's Milwaukee, Oregon or Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  Unlike many landscape artists, Farley often includes competently painted figures, architectural and genre elements in his scenes.  These effectively placed components assist in carrying the eye through the general composition.  Farley's impressionist palette completes his classic impressionist character.
