Artist Ryu Kyung-chai (1920-1995) was a pioneer of Korean abstract art in the post-independence era but is often neglected compared to his peers Kim Whan-ki and Yoo Young-kuk due to strong self-reverence and less self-promotion. An exhibition sheds light on this forgotten master who pursued poetic lyricism in nature throughout his life.

The "Ryu Kyung-chai: Abstract Painting 1960-1995" exhibition at Gallery Hyundai in downtown Seoul features some 50 works from Ryu's oeuvre. Organized chronologically, the exhibit unravels how the artist developed the world of abstract art from non-figurative art in the 1960s to geometric abstract paintings in his latter days of the '90s.
