The following biography has been provided by John Coates, friend & co-author of the artist autobiography.

Nick Cardy was born Nick "Viscardi" on October 16, 1920 in New York City, NY on the lower east side of Manhattan.  His parents were first generation immigrants from Italy, who did not speak English.  After becoming interested in drawing at the early age of six years old, his first formal art training began in his teen years at the local Boy's Club, which offered free art classes. Nick's first published work was at fourteen years of age in the then New York Herald newspaper and Literary Digest magazine as a contest winner.  He attended the School of Industrial Arts before leaving to work in advertising at the age of seventeen.

Cardy broke into the then infant comic book business in 1939 at the now famous Eisner/Iger studio, drawing such strips as Lady Luck for popular "The Spirit" newspaper section, as well as work for the com   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 4041 characters.]  Artist bio
