Born in Valladolid, the Spanish artist Ricardo de los Rios studied under Isidore-Alexandre-Augustin Pils (1813/15-1875) at the École des Beaus-Arts and worked in Paris for a long time.  He then settled in Madrid, where he focused on genre scenes.  Furthermore, Ricardo de los Rios was commissioned to illustrate Cervantes' Don Quixote.
