A Welsh portrait painter and illustrator, Thomas Thomas worked as a sketch artist for the London Graphic and in that capacity toured Yellowstone Park in the summer of 1884. Resulting illustrations include Gulf of Excelsior and Characters in Hall of Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel.  A two-part article of his experiences and observations was carried in the Graphic.
