Gerald Leake

Gerald Leake (1885 - 1975) was active/lived in New York, Florida / England.  Gerald Leake is known for Portrait, figure-genre and townscape painting, commercial art.

Born in London, England, Gerald Leake immigrated to the United States at the beginning of the twentieth century, splitting his time between New York City and Marathon, Florida.  While in Florida, during the winter months, Leake taught in Key West where he held classes in Ernest Hemmingway's house.  He made his mark as a fine artist and illustrator, notably during WWII, when he did poster art for the Navy and his work appeared in magazines, such as Pictorial Review, Read on Home and Life.

He was a member of the American National Academy*, Society of Illustrators*, Lakeland Fine Arts Society and the Royal Society of Artists.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Island City Art School and the Key West Art & Historical Society.

He exhibited at the Salmagundi Club* (1923, 1926-27 (prizes)), at the Pennsylvania Academy* Annual exhibition six times, the Royal Academy* in London, the Salons of America*. the Walker Art Center (Minn   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1784 characters.]  Artist bio
