A painter and illustrator and resident of Detroit, Michigan, Walter Williams, Jr. was a member of the Michigan Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters, and was a visual arts director and co-ordinator.

He studied at the Meinzinger Art School and at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit.

Exhibition venues included the Detroit Institute, Scarab Club, Toledo Museum of Art, Grand Rapids Museum, University of Florida, Michigan State Fair and the Detroit Artist Market.
