Jian Wang

Jian Wang (Born 1958) is active/lives in California.  Jian Wang is known for Figure, landscape, mural painting, sculpture.

Jian Wang was born in 1958 in the westernized city of Dalian in the north east of China. As a child he was one of six selected to create movie posters for propaganda films which he worked on at the Youth Palace of Art after school.

As there was no art college in Dalian he chose to study engineering and he eventually became a successful professor of engineering though he continued to paint in his spare time.

Jain Wang met Marjorie Francisco, a retired American art teacher, while she was teaching college in Dalian. Francisco became his mentor and eventually arranged for Wang to travel to Sacramento in 1986. Francisco paid for his trip and provided Wang with a place to stay in California and tuition at a local college.

Within a year Jian Wang was able to move his wife and child to Sacramento and he eventually attended the University of California at Davis and studied with Wayne Thiebaud.
