Monique Prieto

Monique Prieto (Born 1962) is active/lives in California.  Monique Prieto is known for Biomorphic abstraction.

Known for thinly painted, large scale, vibrantly colored abstract paintings, Monique Prieto is a California artist whose work sometimes results in images that appear to be looming and insect-like---"funky biomorphic forms".  (SMoCA) A mother of young children, she does much of her drawing on a computer screen, a method she finds flexible and convenient, and reminders of domestic life often find their way into her work.

Prieto was born in Los Angeles to Mexican-American parents in a household where "art was always present." (SMoCA) She earned her BFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a second BFA and her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.  She began exhibiting her work in 1989, and has had solo exhibitions in the United States as well as in Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.
