Aleksei Tkachev (Cat'-chev) was born in Chugunovka, Bryansk region in 1925. He studied at the Moscow Intermediate Art School from 1939 to 1945 and at Moscow Art Instate/Surikov Institute from 1945 to 1951. He is active in Moscow.

Tkachev began exhibiting in 1948.  Important shows include: "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1950 "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1951 "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1952 "All-Union Art Exhibition" Moscow, 1955 "Soviet Russia" Moscow, 1960.

Well-known works include Laundresses 1956-57; Kids 1958-60, Between Battles 1958-60, and "Mothers" 1960-61.
