Arthur Shilling was a painter, illustrator and author who was born, and died (as a result of complications from rheumatic fever), on the Rama Reserve near Orilla, Ontario, and except for a brief period in the late 1960's and early 1970's, lived there most of his life.  His medium was primarily oil on masonite or canvas, however he has also worked in pastel, watercolor and pencil.  His subjects are portraits and landscapes.  His style was expressionist characterized by distinctive bold strokes of color.

He studied at the New School of Art and the Ontario College of Art in Toronto; but is mostly self-taught.  He traveled through Canada's west to British Columbia and to northern Alberta.

He started showing his work at the Orilla Public Library in 1963 and had his first solo show in Ottawa, Ontario in 1967. Subsequently his work has been shown in over two dozen major group and solo exhibitions as well as many commercia   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 3136 characters.]  Artist bio
