Bernhard Heisig is considered a major representatives of the ‘Leipzig School’ next to Tübke and Mattheuer.  He is also one of the most important contemporary painters and graphic artists of the GDR.

Honored with state commissions and numerous awards, Heisig was inspired by the style of painting by artists such as Menzel, Corinth, Kokoschka as well as Max Beckmann and Otto Dix.
