An important and influential Canadian writer, novelist, painter and sculptor, Douglas Campbell Coupland was born on the Royal Canadian Air Force base Baden-Soellingen, West Germany and has lived in West Vancouver, British Columbia since 1965. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada* (2013), a member of the Order of British Columbia (2014), a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres [France] (2015), and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (2007). He is also the recipient of honorary Doctor of Letters degrees from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2000), Simon Fraser University (2007) and the University of British Columbia (2010). Coupland is currently (2015) artist in residence at the Google Cultural Institute in Paris.
