Yosuke Takahashi (comic artist) Maki Hosokawa was the recipient of the 'GEISAI Award' for the 'Kaikai Kiki' group, led by Takashi Murakami, in 2004, and she began to gain attention from the art world. Hosokawa calls her paintings 'techno-pop art', taking her subjects from her classic masterpieces and putting them in her own way. She is famous for her parody of Vermeer's as if a child was painting it. As such, she borrows the motifs of her modern city and historical masterpieces and reinterprets them in her own way wittily. The world of her work, which expresses not only Western classics but also various cultures and eras in a pure and free way, is a work in which the artist herself leaves the small happiness she finds in her daily life as her paintings.
