The artist's name is Rafael Griera Calderon. He was born in Las Palmas and spent his childhood in Olot. He learned art from his father's religious imagery workshop and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Olot for a short time. He won his first prize at the Center Catòlic at the age of twelve and was part of the Cràter d'Art group at eighteen. His main influences were Anglada Camarasa and Vermeer from Delft. He exhibited his work in Spain and abroad, including at the Comas in Barcelona, the Kreisler in Madrid, and the Atelier Holstein in Hamburg, as well as at the Fons d'Art de Olot.
