Uwe Henneken studied from 1997 to 2002 in Karlsruhe and Berlin, from 2009 to 2011 he was a professor at the HfBK Hamburg. Henneken is considered a representative of contemporary fantastic figuration. His interest has always been in Symbolism and Romanticism, especially the question of the primordial nature of man. In doing so, he looks at the various advanced civilizations - in our case European culture - that dominated the respective known world and are essential to its rise and fall. Having grown up with the iconography of Catholicism, he sees a clear connection between culture and faith, but here he also includes the so-called folk faith. Henneken works with quotations in the form of illustrations, which he incorporates into his own cosmos in terms of content and painting. The resulting shift in meaning by taking them out of their original context and incorporating them into his own leads to the ambivalence he intends.
