Yanshao Lu

Yanshao Lu (1909 - 1993) was active/lived in China.  Yanshao Lu is known for Landscape scroll painting, calligraphy.

Also known as Lu Yan Shao, Yanshao Lu was a landscape artist whose style was "swift, brisk and overpowering and received much critical acclaim in the late 20th century.  His coloring was unconventional, bright and heavy.  He liked to use Western red pigment to color the fruits he painted.  His landscape painting was done with fine and delicate strokes, classical, long roll, style.  The trees were very lifelike and vivid. 

In 1927, he began study under Wang Tongyu, a former scholar-official of the imperial court i the Qing period who had settled at Nanxiang, and under Shanghai painter Feng Chaoran on the recommendation of Wang.  Lu gained much grounding in traditional Chinese painting by making copies.

His paintings are in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Hunting Archive of Buddhist and Asian Art at Ohio State University.  In his home town of Jiading in Shanghai, China, the Lu Yanshao Art Academy was open   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 3694 characters.]  Artist bio
