Yitzhak Danziger (1916 – 1977)

An important Israeli sculptor, draftsman, painter and educator, Yitzhak Danziger (aka: Itzhak Danziger) was born in Berlin, Germany, moved to Jerusalem with his family when he was 7 years old, and died in an auto accident near Ramla. His works are in the permanent collections of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the Jewish Museum, New York; and the British Museum, London, England. His commissioned monumental sculptures and memorials are located in public spaces throughout Israel. His work was featured in the Museum of Modern Art (New York) exhibition “Art Israel” which toured the U.S.A. and Canada in 1964. His life and works are discussed in most books about Israeli modern art and his sandstone sculpture titled Nimrod (1939) is considered by many to be one of the centerpieces of the Israel Museum permanent collection. Danziger was awarded the Israel Prize, one of his county’s highest honors, in 1968.
