Pravoslav Kotik (1889 - 1970) was active/lived in Czech Republic.  Pravoslav Kotik is known for Abstract cubist figurative and non-objective painting, teaching.

Pravoslav Kotik graduated from the School of Applied Arts with E. Dítet and J. Schikaneder, was member of SVU Mánes, Umelecká beseda and the Ho-Ho-Ko-Ko Group.

He has been exhibiting since 1910 and several times during his career, he has significantly changed his artistic expression so that he always moved at the head of the avant-garde.

The image of the Madonna from 1943 shows the geometry of cubism. Thematically, the painting adheres to Kotík's focus on creation - a figural theme depicting a person in a complex social structure, reflecting his multi-layered story.

The figures with their gestures reflect Kotík's favorite treatment of the dramatic expression of human gesture and movement. The figures of women in headscarves and some with a child in their arms contrast in color with the environment of a gray square.
