Aaron Zook

Aaron Zook (1921 - 2003) was active/lived in Pennsylvania.  Aaron Zook is known for Amish scene three-dimensional painting and sculpture.

The rivalry between twins Romulus and Remus begat ancient Rome; the rivalry between twins Ann Landers and Abigail Van Buren built an empire of syndicated advice columns; and the rivalry between twins Abner and Aaron Zook yielded their own subgenre of art: three-dimensional, diorama-style pastoral paintings.

Growing up in the Amish community in a family of modest means, the Zook boys would compete in carving their own toys, using farm life as their inspiration. The Zooks built on those early creative efforts and over their lifetimes produced a body of hundreds of Amish-life-inspired 3D paintings that has become their legacy.

A work by Aaron Zook, who lived and worked in Kinzers, will be part of the July 23 cataloged antiques sale at Hess Auction Group’s Conestoga Auction Co. in Manheim. The painting, which measures about 3 feet by 5 feet, depicts a horse-drawn sleigh crossing a covered bridge in Lancaster County.
