Giovanni Battista Boncori was the best pupil of Pier Francesco Mola and his activity was celebrated in the Lives dedicated to him by Nicola Pio and Lione Pascoli. The painter's successful career reached its climax when he was appointed Prince of the Academy of San Luca in 1699, an acknowledgment that the following year fell to Carlo Maratti. Yet,of the numerous works cited by the sources, few testimonies have been saved, such as the frescoes of the ambulatory of San Carlo al Corso and the Visitation of Santa Maria in Aquiro, just to name a few. Nonetheless, thanks to the research conducted by Rosella Carloni, Francesco Petrucci and in particular by Massimo Francucci, today we have a broad and updated vision of Giovanni Battista Boncori with exceptional qualities.
