Jack Bonfils (1935-1992), the only child of a Protestant family from the Gard petty bourgeoisie who had been living in Nîmes for many years, soon showed a true talent as a painter. His hesitations are in tune with the artistic tendencies of the post-war period, born of the ruptures nourished in Europe in the twenties.

Still young, he accumulated a first harvest of solitary creations. From that time, his singular way of being reveals a very personal vision of painting, and yet a need to stick to the many currents of the century in motion. Above all, he searched with method, sometimes relentlessly, a personal way, in the silence and the studious retreat which more and more occupied his life.

The short biography that was dedicated to him a few years ago, after his disappearance, touched on the youth of the man and the influences that touched him.
