Jean Boni

Jean Boni (19th Century) was active/lived in France.  Jean Boni is known for Painting.

Jean Boni studied painting, drawing and watercolor at the Academy Brera from his hometown, then to Bologna (a work kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in that city). He moved to Nice around 1858 and obtained his French naturalization after 1860. Boni taught drawing at the Municipal School of Plastic Arts rue St François de Paule between 1862 and 1895. He was chosen in 1867 as decorator of the Municipal Casino (Place Masséna) and decorated the large foyer, several boxes and the dining room with frescoes. His style is situated between romanticism and post-impressionism with a strong sustained touch, precise and supported contours, a dense and sometimes dark palette. He was a very popular landscaper, drawing his inspiration in particular from the surroundings of Contes and Aspremont, as well as around Nice (many views of the seaside). Two of his works are visible at the Château des Ollières.
