He was born in Palermo, but he had never made a flag of his "Sicilianness". And he called himself a 'picture writer'. Renato Tosini is no longer here. He died at the age of 91, in Palermo. He once spoke of his city as an old lost love: "I knew it in better times," he said.

A singular artist, he had dedicated many of his works to his Palermo - which he observed with a bitter smile. Works that were marked by expressionistic research. 

The characters portrayed by Renato Tosini are typical, melancholy and bourgeois. All similar to each other, often heavy and obese, sometimes with a bowler hat covering their bald skull. 

The painter from Palermo exhibited his works in Palermo for the first time only at the age of 74, in 2001.
