Lucy Dodd was born in New York in 1981, and earned a BFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, in 2004 and an MFA from Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, in 2011. Dodd’s practice, which encompasses painting, installation, and performance, is centered on the entropic potential of material and form. Whether a ramshackle arrangement of furniture and knotted rope rearranged daily, or a tableau of sail-like abstract canvases made with found pigment, the artist’s works are durational as opposed to static: their physical compositions and organic properties morph and evolve before the viewer’s eyes.

Through painting in particular, Dodd mines the origins and limits of the medium, resolving to unveil the process of a work’s making while also facilitating its indefinite continuation.
