Salome, originally named Wolfgang Ludwig Cihlarz, was born on August 24, 1954 in Karlsruhe, Germany .

In West Germany, Salome complete training as an architectural draftsman.  In 1973, Salome moved to Berlin and worked as a standing model for other artist.  He then decided to become an artist himself and began studying art at University of Arts in Berlin, under Ulirch Knipsel.  

Salome, along with other artist Rainer Fetting, Helmut Middendorf and Bernd Zimmer, set up a gallery at the Moritzplaz.  Salome had a break through with his break through exhibition, Hefitige Malerei""" at the Haus am Waldsee in Berlin, after he finished his studies.   The Documenta VII invited Salome in 1982. In those years, the artist commuted between Berlin and New York.  Salomé finally moved to Berlin in 1999.
