Art Education
1889 - 1890 Studied art at Buckhurst Hill Art School.
1890 - 1895 Studied art at Walthamstow School of Art (Art Teachers Certificate).
1895 - 1899 Studied art at Royal College of Art, London; won several medals and awards.

Biography:
1895 Sydney Carter won scholarship to Royal College of Art.
1923 Sydney Carter came to South Africa; traveled around the country.
In the Orange Free State in 1925, elected Vice President of Orange Free State Society of Arts and Crafts.
1926 Settled in Johannesburg.
1927 Appointed to staff of Witwatersrand Tech College Art School. Sydney Carter became well-known particularly for his oil and gouache studies of trees; Illustrated several books, including Skiddle by Dorothea Fairbridge.

1936 Small murals for Johannesburg Post Office.
