João Cutileiro was a consecrated contemporary sculptor born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1937. He began his apprenticeship at the age of twelve in Master António Duarte's atelier. After traveling through Italy and Switzerland, he studied at the Slade School of Arts in London from 1955 to 1970. He settled in Lagos, Portugal and exhibited frequently in major world capitals, including the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Jones Gallery in New York, Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, and the Royal Academy in London. He received several awards and prizes throughout his career
