Arturo Zapata (1951 - 2011) was active/lived in Mexico.  Arturo Zapata is known for Geometric sand painting images, engraving, symbolism.

Painter, draftsman and engraver, Arturo Zapata worked developing a violent and incisive expression, but at the same time, full of hope and poetry. He followed a technique of secession and symbolism, whose initial origins can be discovered in the magic of pre-Hispanic art, although other influences evident in his work were rooted in free and monumental fantasy whose culminating works are located in recent trends. 

His pictorial work seeks to vindicate Mexican values, drawing on the iconographic baggage of national culture.
